President of Nigeria Died

Another president kicked the bucket this year. (Remember the President of Poland?)

Okay, this isn't something to laugh about.

Nigerian president Umaru Yar'Adua died at age 58 at 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Aso Rock presidential villa with his wife on his side (awwww). Cause of death was not announced, though the public knows that the president suffered from poor health. Three months ago, his vice president, Goodluck Jonathan, assumed the presidency.

The president was admitted at a Saudi Arabian hospital on November 24. Before this, he failed to formally transfer the powers of the presidency to Jonathan, which started a constitutional crisis in the country until Jonathan won after a vote by the National Assembly on February 9.

My prayers go to his family and to the country of Nigeria, which I have read that there are a lot of troubles in that country - whether it be concerns on oil or on religion.

Eyjafjallajökull Volcano Eruption

Icelandic volcano that goes with the terrific name of Eyjafjallajökull continues erupting on Wednesday, disgorging volcanic ash which surrounded about 11 kilometers of an area into the atmosphere. Ever since 9/11, this is the worst airspace disturbance ever, bringing in worldwide flight cancellations which prevented President Obama from attending the funeral of the Polish President Lech Kaczynski. Tens of thousands of travellers are stranded worldwide.

Polish President killed in a Plane crash

The Polish president and his wife.

A presidential plane crashed in western Russia, killing 97 people.

Seems ordinary, eh? Except for the word 'presidential' that came before the word 'plane'.

These 97 people were talking about are government officials.

And not just government officials.

They are the leaders.

Are you one of those hardcore fans of the Harry Potter series?

Have you read the books many times already?

Did you feel hatred for those who made their movies for changing a lot of details and cutting out a lot of parts from the books?

Do you want more from the wizarding world?

Apple's much-hyped iPad goes on sale!

It's official! Apple began selling the much awaited gadget on Saturday, April 3. Congratulations to those who have bought it. You have just bought one of the coolest gadget you'll ever lay your hands with ever, the iPad. Prepare for a bit of superiority complex when people sees you with an iPad in one hand and, well, probably a Coke in the other.

In an interview, Jeffrey, one of the most famous blogger around, said that "The iPad is the coolest tablet PC out there. And coming from Apple, I'm pretty sure it's something of a revolutionizer, the exact term used by Steve Jobs himself. It may do what the iPod did to the mp3 players, and what the iPhone did to the ordinary and smart phones." In case you do not know, Jeffrey is the owner of this blog. No. Not famous at all. ^^

Wi-Fi Version

Wi-Fi + 3G

So what do we get from the iPad? Here are some of its pros and, of course, cons.

Luxury

In case you do not know, the United States of America is under financial crisis since 2007. Yes, it is true - the most powerful country in the world is under a great recession, resulting to a rise in the unemployment rate and even affecting the global economy.

During this time, the world saw the rise of China as one of the major players - they even grew almost as powerful as the United States. So powerful that the two countries - USA and China - formed an alliance in making solutions to global problems. The Chinese call this rise to power "China's Peaceful Rice". Errr, sorry. it is 'Rise', not 'Rice', in case you did notice it. Another proof of power is when China warned President Obama to cancel a meeting with someone labeled by them as a 'dangerous separatist'. I mean, who would have the guts to order President Obama around? Well, only the powerful, maybe.

Earth Hour - do we really need it?

Every March, on its last Saturday, since 2008, the Earth Hour event is being held worldwide. People are encouraged to turn off non-essential lights and electronic appliances to raise awareness to the issues of climate change all over the world and, of course, to global warming. But this event is not just to encourage people to conserve energy for an hour.

South Korean Ship Sank

The Cheonan, a South Korean Ship, sank late Friday Night.

The Cheonan Naval ship of South Korea, weighing 1,200 tons, was patrolling 20 km from North Korea on the night of March 25 at the Baeknyeong Island when an explosion, more likely an accident - according to Carl Baker, an expert on Korean military relations - happened that made the ship sank just near the maritime border of North Korea.

US Health Care Bill - A Short Glimpse

"This legislation will not fix everything that ails our health care system, but it moves us decisively in the right direction," Obama said shortly after the historic vote. "This is what change looks like."

It's been 45 years – on July 30, 1965 to be exact, see the brief history here. - since the United States of America - and the world - witnessed the advent of Medicare and Medicaid. However, the availability of these for universal coverage was not achieve - a work that each and every man who took the seat of presidency failed to do. Until Obama finally done it.

A frightening margin of 7 votes made the realization of Obama's signature goal for the country. The house voted 219-212 to send this elusive dream into reality. The catch is, the Democrats passed the bill without a single vote from the Republicans, which smells of a great rift between them. And it's an indication that the Republicans will not give up the fight yet - not until the bill became law. The Republicans already made it known to the public that they plan to do a campaign during this fall's midterm elections on a pledge to repeal the bill. There will be a lot of constitutional challenges.

ACADEMY AWARDS 2010 - The Hurt Locker

Have you watched Avatar? Have you any doubts on its nomination on Best Picture for the Academy Awards? Have you any doubts that it will win?

Tell me whether you are thinking on the same line as me or you're just me. Eh?

But no, Avatar didn't won. Despite its gross of more than $2 billion - come on! billion! Money exists in that amount! -, James Cameron, the director, lost to his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow in her movie The Hurt Locker.

So why did the most amazing movie that I ever watched in my entire life didn't won Best Picture?

A week before the Academy Awards, web search about the films nominated for the category of Best Picture soared sky-high. I read somewhere that Avatar will be beaten by The Hurt Locker. Why? Because the The Hurt Locker possessed all prerequisites of winning the Best Picture Award - a nomination in Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. Maybe these are the factors that thinned the prospect of winning Best Picture for Avatar. Well, an exception to that rule is Titanic, which won Best Picture without even being nominated in Best Original Screenplay. Well, sometimes history doesn't repeat itself.
